Hey guys!

I just recently purchased a new ''gaming PC'' with APU system.

But now I'm regretting even buying it because I can't even play games like Batllefield 4, Far Cry 4, Metro Redux, on the lowest possible settings. I come up to around 10 FPS so it's not even watchable, not to mention playable.

I have all the drivers up to date, all Windows updates installed.
Tried going in to BIOS to see if I could change anything there to boost it up but no luck there since this APU apperantly cannot be overclocked.

Here's my stuff:

- AMD A8-7600 FM2+ Quad Core 3.1 Ghz (3.8 Ghz in Turbo) with Radeon R7 Series.
- Gigabyte GA-F2A68HM-HD2
- Kingston HyperX 8GB DDR3 1600MHz
- Toshiba 1000GB 7200RPM - 6Gb/s - SATA
- Corsair VS, 450W 80+ V2
- Windows 7 (x64)

Now in the product description the seller says the graphics has 2GB video memory, but according to CCC I only have 1GB. When I contacted support to ask about this they said that in APU systems the video memory isn't ''locked'', but it uses as much memory as it needs at the moment, usually 2GB max. Now I have no idea if this is true since I'm not so good at this stuff.

I've searched the web for any kind of help and I've seen youtube clips where people run these games normally on medium settings with high FPS. Am I missing something here?

So basiclly I'm sitting here with a brand new PC that's apperantly only good for watching movies.

Forgot to mention that the RAM is one single stick, NOT 2x4GB. Does this have any effect on overclocking?

When there is only one stick of RAM it will operate in single channel mode which means the transfer rate is half of what it would be if it had 2 sticks of RAM; dual channel mode. Since the integrated Radeon R7 (Kaveri) uses system RAM it's performance is low because the RAM is only operating in single channel mode. While DDR3 1600 is fine for Intel CPUs and the Intel HD graphic cores, AMD benefits from faster RAM. Not sure what the fastest RAM the A8-7600 supports; at least 1866, but maybe up to 2133.

In the following video of Far Cry 4 being played on an A8-7600, the description states he has 8GB (2x 4GB sticks) of DDR3 1866 RAM. But I am not quite sure if the RAM is overclocked to 2133.

It supports up to 2400mhz check this vid out (different apu, but still it compares different speeds) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cv57qDXpEPU

So basically I have to buy another identical stick of RAM, then overclock them both?

I can find a guide on how to overclock, but is there anything in particular I need to think about when overclocking or buying the additional stick?

Also, the guy in the video playing BF4 has the Kaveri version of the APU, I don't so I cant overclock it, does this have any effect on overclocking RAM?

1) AMD's APUS benefit MASSIVELY from fast ram. You should've got a kit of 2x4 GB DDR3 2133 MHz ram or even 2400 Mhz if possible.
2) A8 7600 is made for Low-Medium 720p gaming at mostly 30 FPS. Again, this is only possible with 2133+ RAM.
3) DO NOT use Windows 7 with AMD's APUs. Install Windows 8.1 or Windows 10 immediately. Most optimization made by AMD and Microsoft for these types of APUS were implemented starting with Windows 8.
4) If you wanted overclocking, you should've bought and APU with a K suffix. Like the A8 7650K. But if you wanted gaming, you should've got the 7870K and overclocked that.
5) The GPU in your APU doesn't have 1 or 2 GB VRAM. The VRAM it can use is taken from how much system RAM your PC has.
6) You should've bought a CPU cooler as well. You really want to APU to be able to Turbo all time for best CPU and GPU performance.
7) If you aren't satisfied with performance (but really, an A8 7600 is made for people who play Dota 2 and LoL, not Far Cry 4 or Metro Redux), either return the 7600 if you bought it recently and get the 7870K, overclock that and buy FASTER ram. Or ... sell the APU, buy an Athlon 860K for a lower price than the price you've paid for the APU, buy a separate GPU, like an AMD R7 250, do not change your ram and enjoy better performance either way.

It's your fault you bought a lowly A8 with low frequency ram for heavy gaming. Sorry mate.

Without overclocking the motherboard can support DDR3 2133 RAM. With overclocking it can support DDR3 2400 RAM. However, your particular Gigabyte motherboard does not seem to have good reviews so overclocking can be iffy. Besides, there is only a minor potential difference in performance when using DDR3 2400 vs DDR3 2133 RAM from some benchmarks I have seen.

The best thing to do is to buy two sticks DDR3 2133 (or 2400) 4GB RAM. Remove the 8GB stick of DDR3 1600 RAM. Mixing different RAM speeds basically forces all the RAM to run lower speed which defeats the purpose of getting DDR3 2133 RAM.

Go to the overclocking sub-forum for help regarding how to OC with your motherboard.

I know this is an older thread, but I saw it and wanted to post. Since I run an A8-7600 APU setup.
With my setup I am able to play Grand Theft Auto 5 and it looks great and plays great. Other games I play are State of decay, Battlefield 4, Need for speed most wanted (newer version).

Here is my setup.
MSI A88X-G43 motherboard.
AMD A8-7600 cpu.
4x4gb- 16gb DDR3 1866mhz memory
EVGA 600w psu.
Sata bluray drive
1tb 7200 rpm hdd
2x 160gb sata hdds in raid for storage/programs
Windows 10 64-bit

I run the APU R7 graphics on my board set to initiate IGD and set to dual graphics mode (even though I have only the APU as graphics) with it set in dual mode this allows me to set my video ram to 2gb, giving me 14gb system and 2gb dedicated to my R7 apu.

I run at 1920x 1200 HDMI on gtav looks and plays great.

The best APUs are adequate only for playing modern games on the lowest settings. If you have the option of returning the PC, I would recommend it, then get something with an Intel CPU (e.g. Core i3) and a discrete GPU, that doesn't have to share (slow) system memory with the CPU.

How is it his fault if he didn't know? He probably looked up videos with this APU and saw it's good performance on BF4 and such and got it. He's not asking you to completely rework his build, he's asking you to help with what he's got.

I bet that your GPU bandwith is crippled. Its a 64bit bus width GPU right now.

Its because u have one stick of RAM. Insert a second one (same or 4gb or 2gb with same latency and speed) and performance will be instantly 2 times better (128bit bus) and bandwith will be doubled.

This GPU with RAM speed 1866/cl10 can run Witcher 3 stable on low-medium settings 1680x1050 resolution.

You can not play AAA games like Battlefield with a built-in graphics. AMD's APU is essentially like Intel's, Intel HD Graphics that's built in the chip. If you want graphics and good gaming you get a GPU that's why there's the slot on the motherboard. And they are actually fairly cheap.

Buy ASUS GT730 2G Video CArd and you wont have any problems.

Bro i'm using the Same processor..on Win 10 ..but with 2 sticks of 8GB hyperX fury RAM 1866Mhz . Now thats 16GB RAM..& damn...i can run every God damn Game in almost Ultra Setting ..be it Witcher 3, Far cry 4 - Primal , CoD WW2 , CoD Infinite Warfare , Assassin's Creed Syndicate - Origins ...anything u just Name it...so problem is your rest of Setup..not Processor or its Integrated Graphics
