hey guys, i just tried using that recorder that comes with Windows...

Start/Programs/Accessories/Entertainment/Sound Recorder.

i have a new KOSS microphone, and a brand new system, noted below in sig..

i am using the OnBoard Sound. now this happens on my old pc too, and i tried 3 different mics.. i get a very bad recording.. do i have something wrong in a setting? i thought i had the volume way to loud, but it wasn't that.

Check your recording levels. They could be to hot (ie - record volume too high but not normally listed with output levels). If your using the Windows Volume Control, you have to go into Options ->Properties and switch to "Adjust Volume For Recording". Also look at your mike placement. If your tring to record yourself talking, and your practically eating the mic, your too close and overloading the mic itself. Back off a foot and try it again.

ok i got it to work right, the thing is, it only plays back clear, when i go to Propertiies, and change the format conversion to CD Quality, but how do i make it stay that way?? this is the only way it plays clear.

Is it reverting back to less than CD quality? Also, what are you trying to record? You may want to step up to a better piece of software and a better soundcard for recording if you plan on any "serious" recording. If your trying to get a decent recording at less than cd quality, I wouldn't hold my breath. The lower sample rates will be noticable.
