Cant set resolution to 3440x1440p

Hi all,
So I recently bought a 3440x1440p monitor, but the problem is I can't run that resolution on windows. I'll right click on my desktop and go to display settings, but theres no 3440x1440p option, the only 21:9 display option is 2560x1080p option. Im running a gtx 780 (which I plan to upgrade to a 1070 in the near future). Anyone know how I can get windows to recognize that I have a 3440x1440p monitor? Thanks.

How are you connecting to the display? See the note at the bottom of the GTX 780 spec link:

"3840x2160 at 30Hz or 4096x2160 at 24Hz supported over HDMI. 4096x2160 (including 3840x2160) at 60Hz supported over Displayport. Support for 4k tiled MST displays requires 326.19 driver or later."

If your using a VGA cable the max is 2048x1536. If your using a VGA cable You may need to get a DVI cable.

Is it a quality cable, or a typical freebie that came with some other device? Have you updated to the most current drivers from Nvidia? Also, do you have the drivers for your display installed?

So I check my drivers, etc and found the problem. I was using a supposedly 4k hdmi switch (40 bucks, so figured itd actually work). Plugged straight into monitor, instantly 3440x1440p. So yeah i guess the cables in a way was the issue 😀

You may need to use the Dp output ports of the graphics card if the monitor has a Dp input on it to reach.
3440 x1440p 4K screen resolution.

Also have a look in the monitor menu and config setup to see if you can select a defined Hz range the monitor can be set to.

Video modes and there resolutions they can display are often set or fixed from a minimum to a maximum out of a set range of resolutions displayed by a video card depending on what type of output you use of the graphics card a Dp being the highest output interface in regards to resolution displayed.

So it`s either how the options are set in the monitor, or the video output port currently connected to the monitor.
I would expect the monitor to have a DP input if it can do 4k Btw.
