hi,

I can't seem to upgrade to win xp home edition. I bought the win xp home
upgrade disk at best buy last week. I'm running win me now. my
motherboard is a soyo 6ba+III. cpu is PIII 550E. 192 mb ram. video card
is a voodoo 3000 agp. My hard drive is connected to the motherboard
through a Promise 100 ultra TX2. I ran the upgrade adviser and it showed
no hardware issues, the only software issue was a mpeg layer3 program,
which I can't seem to uninstall.

This is what happens. Everything goes well until it comes time to start
the install process. It finishes the preparing to install fine, then it
copies the files just fine. Then it reboots, like it should. the computer
posts, then I go to the screen where I choose 1 or 2. I choose 1 and then
it goes to a black screen with a very dim windows logo. It just stays
there, no error messages, no hd activity. nada.

This is what I tried. updated motherboard bios, updated promise
controller card bios, updated promise card drivers, tried a clean boot
using msconfig. I tried booting from the xp cd, it hung at a blue screen
instead.

Anyone have any ideas?? Thanks

Jason
