Car Speakers and Sub woofers

I have standard speakers in my car which do not produce good bass, the sound is good-ish. i want to upgrade. So i am thinking of buying a whole new set of speakers.
if i just want to improve the bass, will only a subwoofer suffice my need?
If i change the whole set of speakers and buy good ones, will i need a subwoofer necessarily? or will good speakers produce bass by itself?

High quality speakers will produce an ok bass, but you are better getting a dedicated sub for the bass, they aren't expensive and will make your system sound 10 times better. If you not totally bothered get decent door speakers and sound deaden the doors as when turning bass up will cause the doors to vibrate and sound crap
