Card overclocking Help

i have 2 question
1- What are the base speed on a radeon 9800pro
2-can i go further than 378/337 with a powercolor radeon 9800pro with regular cooling.

I thought Powercolor 9800pro run at default of 400/360

Nah, defaults for the R9800Pro (<b>128mb</b>) is 380/340.

And to Coylter, Powercolors have a reputation for poor overclocking.

Just take it slow if you plan on doing it.

i am at 420/372 right now and i have no problem.
i just got 6200 on 3dmark2003

Thats a good target for me when I put the heatsink on the 9700pro. Keep up the good work...

But according to <A HREF="http://www.nordichardware.com/reviews/graphiccard/2003/Radeon9800Roundup/index.php?ez=7" target="_new"> this</A> Powercolor 128meg runs at higher frequency than ATI's refrence card.

what do artefact look like
i dont think i have any because everything look normal and i am at 435/375

For my 9700pro, artifacts first occur in the 2nd and 3rd game tests is 3dmark 03. When you see either little white/grey or black spots, that means the card is over heating or is just running too fast.... Also when taking the memory high, watch out for big black tears in the image....

And dont forget, if you have low air flow in your case near the card, the extra heat will soon build up and you may find artifacts at speeds you thought where ok! Best rule is to find the maximum speed without artifacts and drop each frequency 6-10mhz and leave it at that.

i have seen some artefact at 435 370 in the 4th test of 3dmark , white dot in the water, flashing white dot...

i reduced the speed to 426/372 and it look ok

Ad according to <A HREF="http://www.hardocp.com/article.html?art=NDgzLDI=" target="_new">THIS</A> they run at LOWER speeds than the reference ATI. When disucssing RXXXX speeds I always give the reference speed, because that's what you should expect from a card, anything more is a bonus. One of the main reasons I do this is because both Powercolor and Gigacube are notorious for sending underclocked cards to customers, or labelling non-pro cards with some variant of pro in the name. Using ATI reference speeds are what I expect.
