cas2 or pc133?

I've been doing some price shopping for new memory for my new computer I'm going to build and it seems that it is really easy to get pc100 cas2 ram cheap, but very difficult to find pc133 cas2 for a good price. It seems I can go either with the 133mhz OR cas2 for the money I can afford. Which is better with a 900 t-bird w/ Abit KT7-Raid MB, GeForce2 MX video?

If anyone knows where to get a good stick of 128MB pc133 cas2 memory for cheap, please let me know.

Ryan,

What's your price range and do you mean in the US?

I don't know where you are but if you are in the US then you are in luck. Follow this link to get a 128MB PC133 CL2 stick of Crucial RAM for $91.79+tax with FREE 2nd day UPS shipping. I am not sure where you are going to find a better deal, plus this is Crucial RAM, don't get any better than that.

Heres the link:

Hope this helps!

That is the exact same stuff I ordered and it handles my bus speed fine(140). Personaly I think it is the best stuff you can get.

Well I was hoping to try to get the memory (not necessarily pc133 and cas2 at same time) for under $80. I know TigerDirect has cas3 133 for $60, and yeah I realize it's generic memory. I'll look into the crucial ram.

CAS (Column Address Strobe) Latency has to do with delays while your computer is performing certain memory operations. CAS2 means there is less of a delay than CAS3, i.e., it's a bit faster. You can usually set the CAS Latency in your motherboard BIOS...dependng on your motherboard and the type and grade of your memory.

I just did a little hunting for some beginners guides. There's a lot of stuff out there, much of it is not ideal. Try this site first:

<A HREF="http://www.tweaktown.com/" target="_new">http://www.tweaktown.com/</A>

Click on "Guides" in the "Navagation" column on the left. Then go to "MISC Guides" and start out with the artcle entitled "Intel FSB Overclocking." Take it from there.

You can also check out sites like <A HREF="http://www.arstechnica.com" target="_new">http://www.arstechnica.com</A> and <A HREF="http://www.firingsquad.com" target="_new">http://www.firingsquad.com</A>. Watch out for the later as there's some big popup ad that comes up every time you change a page.

CAS2 is more expensive than CAS3, sometimes by a lot.
