Case Size/Type for Motherboard?

yeah and if it has weird mounting points that aren’t standard :) Best best would be to use a ruler like you said

Its a BTX.
its also a Proprietary Dell. Its very hard to transfer to a different case because of the "backwards" layout but mostly because of the front panel connector. That rectangular black box on the bottom right corner of the mobo (with all the pins) is the connector which differs greatly from the basic cables (PW switch, RES switch, HDD LED, etc.) used in modern cases. The usb power is also in that mess of pins (somewhere)
The power supply will most likely get in the way of some of the components as well.
Its basically only good for an Optiplex 760 or some sort of open air case.

I want to know the size so I can get a better computer that is cheap and better then the one I have now:

Intel Pentium 4 HT 3.00 GHz Socket 478
Corsair xms platinum DDR1 🙁 Memory 2x1gb
GPU: visiontek radeon x1600xt xge AGP 8x 🙁256mb (I want an EVGA :)one, but cost as much as a cheap pc that is better)
CPU fan: Thermaltake 6000 rpm fan :)
Motherboard: MSI MS-6728 v2

And I want the next pc to have a quad core or better (doesn't matter how much GHz it has, I can overclock it)
I also want a good Zalman fan for the processor so I can overclock the cpu. :)

2 Hard Drives (IDE) (an 80 GB and a 40 GB)
A DVD drive (also IDE)
CPU fan, until I get a ZALMAN one
Power Supply (it is a 400 Watt and has SATA power cables, I've tried it and it worked :)and 1 PCI-E power cable, I have adapters for old power cables to new pci-e power cables)
I want to keep the case, but the slot for a graphics card is to short 🙁 🙁 🙁(I Really like that case, can I change the back?)
IDE cables
I also have extra SATA cables I just bought :)
I want a SSD for my OS (windows 7, which I have, but can't install on the old one for some reason, even though It used it before, then it broke)

This one: http://www.amazon.com/Kingfast-Sata3-Height-Desktop-Laptop/dp/B00MSSERBA/ref=sr_1_2?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1428082882&sr=1-2&keywords=SSD

Or this one: http://www.amazon.com/KingFast-SATAIII-Solid-Devices-Interface/dp/B00JPB61C6/ref=sr_1_9?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1428082900&sr=1-9&keywords=SSD

I will use it for gaming (ex: payday 2), like my old one (can't run payday 2).

The simple answer is that it is very challenging and will be quite expensive to do what you want to do because of the proprietary nature of the case. Because you have the SFF model, you cannot use the larger boards and are limited to Dell's BTX form factor, I think. You might be able to find a better Dell BTX board that will fit in that case, from a higher model in the series or related series but the I/O may not line up.

If you get a new CPU, is will usually come with a cooler too.
You will need at least 4Gb of memory
The LGA775 socket can take some quad core chips.

It is likely to be cheaper, and a LOT better to cut your losses and start anew.

You are better off getting a new cpu and motherboard, instead of using such old technology.

You could put nearly anything in that case. Go for new technology.

Even a cheap Intel G3258 and H81 motherboard will be a huge improvement, although you may need a new OS and you will need new memory and PSU.

(I offered Intel as a contrast to the above) I would go with a more powerful APU than that.

How much money do you want to spend?

Im only getting money from returning bottles, so around $75 max, I can go more, but then I will have to wait longer for money.

Then you need a long term plan.

1. Design what you want at the end.
2. Choose the parts
3. Buy them as you can afford them in such an order that you can make the most use of them as soon as possible.
4. Wait and save.

Did that over fifty years ago, only it was a bicycle I was using the bottles to upgrade.

Do you live in a state with a MicroCenter nearby? They have some great in-store deals. Forget the fan, you wont need it soon. Instead, I'd be looking at the G3258 Pentium which can be overclocked on its stock cooler.

It is a challenge for me to wrap my brain around your budget and rate of saving. I think your need for urgency is causing you to make shortsighted decisions, but that's easy for me to say. If I WANT a $1000 computer, I can buy it any time.

You need to be searching for refurbished and/or open box items for maximum bargain.
