To All,

Caution, When upgrading Avg 6 free to Avg 7 free or pro with xp sp2

I wrote avg about a bug they claimed it was not caused by their
software. However, I am going to have to disagree with them. I
installed avg 7 free beta and then the problem started. I did not
have the problem until I installed avg 7 free beta.

The new program interferes with the new Data Execution Prevention
(Dep). Stop error code 0x000000C5: DRIVER_CORRUPTED_EXPOOL

I worked around this problem by change this line in the boot.ini
From /NoExecute=Optin to /NoExecute=AlwaysOff

Avg obviously have no idea how dep works.

I can’t answer the question because I have no memory dump of this on
my system. I have no folder called c:\windows\minidump or a file
called memory.dmp

Here is thier response

>>We have reported this issue neither from AVG Free Edition users
>> nor AVG Professional users.

I didnt have that problem as I reinstalled pro 7.0, yet with sp2, the quick
check, keeps saying there is a virsus in the mbr, full check says there is
not, I also tested with online scanners and there is no virsus, thus pro 7.0
has bug in it, and they told me you know it is not a virsus so just accept
the changes, they have not fixed this yet even in the paid version, further
panda found 3 virsus that AVG did not find, I did not get a chance to look at
what they were as the scan was online and no details of what virsus was
healed,,,

Greg, you signed up for a beta release. Having problems with any beta is
expected as their disclaimer says:

"Important notice: This is a Beta version of the product. This release
may not be fully functional and may contain errors and bugs. By
downloading this Beta version you acknowledge and understand that you
are voluntarily taking a risk by installing the SW on your computer."

You got what you asked for. If you want a clean product, don't use beta
releases.

Lance
Yes, I know that, but if they don’t fix the problem in the beta.
They won’t be fixing it in the final. That a point of a beta to find
out problems. My point of posting is avg is ignoring the bug I
posted. Claiming that it is not in their software. Which is
impossible as I said the problem didn’t happen tell I installed Avg.

That why I gave a fix. So, people using the new Avg 7 Final release
would know how to fix it before the get the bsod.

AVG missed viruses on 3 out of 3 of my home PCs. They were found and
removed by Kaspersky's antivirus software. Different viruses too.

Updating my original post. After updating the virus definition files.
The problem went away. This error has not shown. If it shows on
your system just change the boot.ini

/NoExecute=OptIn
To
/NoExecute=AlwaysOff
