Question CD burner speed

I have a Dell Optiplex 7020 and need to know what the maximum speed is that CDs can be burned at. I called Dell and they couldn't tell me.

that is limited by the drive itself. it should say what the speeds it is capable of include.

though it has been a very long time since i burned a cd, using the faster speeds usually caused all kinds of issues with compatibility. audio cd's would not work on cd players very often and other compatibility issues like that.

but slowing it down and only burning at like 8x or so usually fixed those issues.

The max speed may be determined by the media you are using.

Probably a moot point; it is what it is.
Test for yourself and see what you get.

Go to "my computer" "This PC" and right click on any drive to go to properties, switch to the hardware tab and search for your dvd, it usually has dvd as part of its name, type that whole model number into google and you will find the specs of the drive which will also tell you the max speeds.

That's only if you burn discs for lower tech devices, like cd/dvd players or old consoles, that just can't deal with higher speed media.
