Hello, I've got a messed up iso of windows. When ever I burn it to a CD and try to boot from the CD and install, it goes along fine, until the intaller reaches "copying files". I skip through it and reach a stable and working xp install. There is no defragmenting program. I'm looking for a program I can burn to a cd to boot and defrag from. Thanks.

You want a way to boot that'll defrag your HDDs? Why not just downlaod window's defragging program, or just download a program for windows and defrag AFTER you boot to Windows?

Edited: Was tired when I wrote this before, confusing sentance.

If I understand what your problem is, you are simply missing the XP defreggaer from your XP installation. Easily remedied by downloading one. Not sure why you would need a bootable defragger.

is a great way to have a bootable CD with tons of tools on it, but I don't think it has a defragger.

I'm not even sure you CAN defrag a XP install from outside XP... I think XP has files it doesn't want moved.

Download Diskeeper:
http://www.diskeeper.com

If you have a friend with XP you can just snag the file dfrg.msc

Its just an MMC snap-in

Will diskeeper work without the window's native defragger? I checked, and I had dfrg.msc there. It even opened up. When I tried to defrag by clicking a drive and the analyze or defrag button, nothing happened.

Yes diskeeper will work without the windows default. Also if you are running Norton Antivirus Systemworks it also has an alternative defragger.

I also found this forum that has you create a text file and copy some registry entries into it.

That atleast gives you some options
