Hope someone can help with this as it is becoming very frustrating.
We have 4 users (all administartors). When we put a disc in either the cdrw
of dvdrw the E or D drive does not reconize the disc is in.
When double clicking the E/D drive letter it states to 'please insert disc'
- however the disc is in.
BUT, if say user 1 logs off and user 2, 3 or 4 logs in, one of these users
(and only one of them) will be able to have discs read. There is no pattern,
it's just the luck of the draw to which user can read discs.
Very frustrating and time consuming.
If anyone can give advice i would be very greatful.
Thanks
Geoff

Dear Geoff,

I have the same problem, it seems to be after i have
installed xp pack 2, but i am not sure. Also if i connect
my (usb) digital camera, it fails to open the drive. I
hope anyone knows what it could be.
Regards,
Jarno K.

Yep, it's frustrating isn't it. After searching these forums I found a
possible fix which I tried last night. It is working better but not 100%.
In 'my computer' there is the c,d,e drives. But there is another drive F,
which i presume was put on possibily from a 3rd party software burner.(cd/dvd
ripping/imaging software)
It stated this *might* work - go to device manager, and disable the device.
it possibly will have 'scsi cdrom device'.
i disabled it and was able to get the DVD drive to read discs under all
users. But the CDrw still will not read discs.
not perfect but better.
will keep searching.
HTH.

in case you guys are watching this post, i tried what phil said -put disc in
before logging in - this worked for all users (all administrators). i put a
disc in the cdrw and the dvdrw and was able to read everything on disc's
everytime. not perfect still but at least the disc's work.
