ello everyone

bought myself a cheap system off ebay (yeah yeah i know) which is JUST for running/hosting IRC channel bots. it's an IBM thinkcentre 8320-75g. here's the Speccy shot:

now the 70c is worrying since it's just idling running two instances of mIRC so i installed coretemp:

and heres a shot from speedfan too:

i feel its highly improbable the min/max is at 70c plus i ramped the fan from 20% to 100% in speedfan and got no change on temp1 (ambient dropped by a few c). i even popped the case open and touched the heatsinks and theres no way they're at 70c lol is it safe to assume the diode or w/e measures temperature is dead? if so what should i go by to estimate the temps? not too bothered about the machine its just meant to be a 24/7 pc that was cheap its running with no monitor/kb/mouse etc im just remote accessing it.

cheers.

Solution
It sounds as though the Temp sensor is shot. There isn't much you can do, especially for a board that old, other than but a cheap 3.5/5.25" bay fan controller that comes with temp sensors. Just mount one as close as you can to the CPU, and although it probably won't be 100% accurate, it will give you a rough idea to within maybe 10-15% of what your actual temps are. Other than that, if you're confident that you aren't going to hammering the CPU to the point where it would thermal throttle, then just leave it and keep an eye on it.

at the most itll just be running two mirc instances/just a mess around rig hence the low specs, was just worried incase it was infact hitting 70c lol. was only £25 so im not bothered over it, thanks for the help though might have to look into a bay controller since I wont be using the disc drive on it anyway.

Yeah, it should be fine. It'll thermal throttle itself if it actually gets too hot. You can pick fan controllers with temp sensors on them up for a tenner on eBay. Again, they aren't super-accurate, but you'll at least be able to hazard a decent guess at how hot things are :)
