I've been wanting to purchase a new CDRW and the CenDyne Lightning V 52/24/52 CD-RW looks very promising. Does anyone actually own one though? If so, does it live upto it's expectations?

Trying to get there, but seems to be no shortcut!
Edited by geminiguy on 04/20/03 08:48 PM.

I almost did. Let me explain...

Cendyne does not make the drives. They are made by at least 4 different companies and there could be as many as 8 companies.

Lite-On

If you can check the back of the packaging you can see the model number. Each model number is the actual model number of the manufacture. So you can find a really good drive but you can also get a piece of junk. If you are looking to buy it online... Don't! because you cant check to see if you got a good drive.

OfficeMax normally has them on sale once in a while. I went to three stores looking for the Lite-On drive. No luck.

There are a lot of forums on the net where you can learn more. Just do a search via www.dogpile.com or some other engine.

I don't like cendyne, basically for the reason stated below, they don't make the drives, they just market them. So one out of the 8 people making the drives for them might be okay, the other 7 are total crap. Funny how office max carries that line of products because they must get alot of rma's on them. I haven't used one myself, so i won't be too harse on them. I will, however, mention that my friend bought a 48x16x48 cendyne or something close to that speed(can anyone really burn at 48x?...lol and it worked for about 30 minutes out of the box. might have been a driver problem, but the drive itself didn't do a good job burning cd's. BUT 1 bad experience doesn't make all their products crap. Just thought i would tell you my experience so you can weigh it against anyone else who bothers to repost here.

I found you a link that goes over what I stated about Cendyne.

I've got a Cendyne Lightning 48x16x48 that I paid $19.99 for at Officemax. Great drive, but that's cuz I got the Lite-On. Check the numbers, if it's a Lite-On, then grab it. I love mine. Otherwise, like everyone else said, stay away.
