Hello,
HP Pavilion P6741f doesn't show anything in Network and Sharing Center(just "unknown" where it should show type of connection and the little schematic of the network) and nothing in Change Adapter Settings. There's no network icon near computer time also.
Tried to reinstall drivers but no luck. Tried to install a secondary PCI-Express Ethernet card and install drivers, but still no connection. Not sure what to do at this point(no restore points).
Maybe this background information will help:
Originally computer had a Wireless network card installed(wpea-113n), along with buil-in motherboard Ethernet port.
Suddenly the computer began to throw BSOD "0x000000D1 athrx.sys driver_irql_not_less_or_equal". Some searching yielded a possible solution - uninstall Atheros Dual-band Wireless driver and then reinstall. This didn't solve the problem. Went to HP support website and downloaded "Original Atheros Wireless Networking Controller Driver" version "8.0.0.341 Rev. A". Unfortunately installing these drivers(or any drivers from the support page) didn't work as error would appear after running .exe of the driver(s) - "Error: WBT - install.exe Ole".
At this point the decision was to remove the wireless PCI-Express card from the desktop computer, which in turn stopped the computer from throwing the BSOD(also Windows stopped reinstalling the Atheros driver too). Only one device driver would show up under Network Adapters - the Realtek Gigabit Ethernet driver. But, since then the internet connectivity was forever lost as the adapters list is always empty now(even if you put the wifi card back in and let Windows install the Atheros driver, but BSOD comes back).
All of this bring us back to where we left off above of this thread post - by trying to use another PCI-E Gigabit card. After installing drivers of the replacement PCI-E Ethernet card on the system - the driver name of the original Realtek Gigabit Ethernet driver(built in Ethernet in the motherboard) changed to Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller and there's two of them now.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Update: Also tried a USB to Ethernet device(after uninstalling PCI-E Ethernet drivers completely and reverting back to original Ethernet built-into motherboard). Installed drivers, connect with Ethernet cable, but still no adapters show up. Another thing is there's this message in networking and sharing center - "The dependency service or group failed to start". Running Internet Troubleshooter mentioned some warning about Diagnostic Policy Service. After some research, running this command and then rebooting didn't fix the issue - "netsh winsock reset". Diagnostics Policy Service seems to be running. Restarted it from Services, then tried to run Internet Troubleshooter again but it said it encountered a problem(doesn't say which one).
