Changing Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 to Intel Core Quad..But which one?

Hello guys.
So..Like the tile says..I'm thinking about changing my Intel core 2 Duo E8400 to Intel Core Quad, because I want to play games that use 4 cores (Battlefield 3), but I don't know is it even worth it..I heard many good things about Intel Core Duo's, but also some good things about Quad's..So, I was thinking about Q9400, but will performance in BF3 be better then on E8400 3,0GHZ?
My rig is:
HIS Radeon 4890 1GB
4,00GB Ram
Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit
Power Supply OCZ StealthXstream 2 600W.
Is Q9400 any good? Or should I buy other quad? (only Intel Core Quad, because my motherboard runs LGA775) Will FPS get better in games that use multi-cores, like BF3?

The core 2 quads do surprisingly well in BF3, especially the Q9400. However, in the mean time I would overclock your E8400. BF3 loves multicores and an overclocked Q9400 or E8400 will do nicely :) Though do you have any Q9550 or 9650's available?
 

Only Q9550's are available..
They are way more expensive though.. So..You say, that E8400, will be good for decent 30+FPS and 1920x1200 (that's my monitor's native resoution) to play? Or should i get Q9400?

:) my favorite socket 775 motherboard. overclocks like a beast. . no worries there.
 

So..Should I stay with my E8400, OR buy Q9400? I have only stock cooler, for my E8400, so I don't know if I can overclock it on air..
 
no matter what, get a cooler.

the only question i pose is if you can find one cheap enough to make it a "cost effective" upgrade.

the safer route would be get cooler, overclock the 8400 and see if that is good enough while keeping an eye on Q9400 prices.

you'll want a cooler on the quad anyhow. 😉
 


Should I buy Battlefield 3 for PC, with no worries about low FPS? I own the PS3 version, but graphicly it's awful, and it runs 25-30FPS on PS3..And on PC I can only get better graphics..

But I'm not sure about FPS, and Settings..I want to play on medium at least..What would you do if you were me? :)
 

But..Stick to E8400? Right? 😀 And run..BF3 on medium +30fps? 😀
 
that 4890 just may do better than 30 fps on medium settings. at low resolutions the cpu will hold you back, at high resolutions then the gpu will hold you back.

if you find yourself at 100% cpu and your gpu is 50%; time for a quad.
 

Ok, I get it. But last time..BUY BF3 OR NOT. I don't want to cry over low FPS when I buy it ;P I need to be 100% sure.
 
i haven't got it so i can't tell you to buy it or not but you should be good.

but amuffin thinks so and i do at times trust his judgement.
