Hello,

I bought a very cheap PSU in order to keep "alive" my old system after an upgrade.
The PSU is a really cheap one, I bought it for ~ EUR 16.45
Here's a link: http://pc-professional.info/power-supplies/1256--ep-400w.html

I didn't need anything special and I decided to go for a cheap solution, but I didn't take into account the fact that such a cheap PSU will have crap, noisy fan.

I am considering to make a little modification and change the existing fan of the PSU with this one:
https://www.arctic.ac/eu_en/f8-silent.html
I will get this for EUR 4.90, so the total cost will be EUR 21.35 which is still pretty low.

According to Arctic's website that fan provides significantly better cooling than other fans from major companies, is it possible that it will be unable to cool the PSU sufficiently? I am only doubtful because it appears that the current fan spins pretty fast.

I know that there's no clear answer to this question, but any opinion will be highly appreciated.

Thanks for your opinion, but that's not an option. The current PSU does what I need it to do. It is just a little more noisy than I would like it to be. That is not a reason to buy another.

I am asking about a 5 euro mod that will eventually make it better.

I changed the fan about an hour ago.
Unfortunately, I don't have a thermometer to measure the actual temperature of the PSU, but it seems that the air that exhausts is cooler.
I will be monitoring it for the next couple of days and I will update the post with the results.

P.S. It appears that PSU fans have a 2-pin connector, while case fans have a 3-pin connector. I didn't want to cut cables so I just took out the PSU fan, I placed the case fan on it place and I got its cable outside of the PSU and connected it on the motherboards power fan. Now, I am able to monitor it and even have the motherboard adjust its speed based on the overall temperature of the system. I suppose that if the PSU starts getting hot, that will affect the temperature of the whole system... we will see.
