Cheap AGP card for 1366 x 768

Hello,

I have a Hewlett Packard PC with 250 watt PSU, running XP, have integrated graphics on my gigabye motherboard (Celeron 2.9 processor). I have bought a new monitor and need 1366 x 768 resolution-not possible so using 1024 x 768. I dont do gaming, only internet use. What cheap Ebay used AGP grahics card would suffice?

the graphics card doesnt have anything to do with your resolution. you will have to buy a bigger monitor to get a better resolution. your cpu is out of date.. 15 years old by now so i suggest you upgrade since agp cards are barely in production any more and are very expensive. if you decide to get a bigger monitor id suggest you find a 7 series geforce card like the 7300GT or 7600GT.. hell you might be able to find a 7800GTX or 7950 too.

If the computer has intel integrated video you may be able to go to the intel site and update the video drivers. New drivers may give you more resolutions to choose from so that you can hit the native of the LCD.

If not I would recomend something like the AMD HD3450.

These normally sell for around 30 bucks and will make that older computer feel new. This card will even run aero if you ever decided to upgrade to win7.

PS I am running an older Low Pro HP D530 p4 3.2HT with 2 gigs of 400 mhz ram and a 512 HD3450 AGP as a home theater PC. My 3450 had HDMI with sound and it runs my 46 inch tv at 1920x1080 no problem for netflix and hulu.

My integrated graphics is SIS mirage. BY googling I have established theres no updated software for this.

The saphire you suggest needs 300 watt min PSU -I only have 250 watt PSU - might I cook it ????

you can also get a PCI ( NOT pci-e ) video card if you can't find an AGP card of your liking......... if you have the empty slot for it.

The HD3670 uses less than 75W so even without looking it up, I am 100% certain the HD3450 needs even less than that.

GPU manufacturers' "requirements" are really nothing more than arbitrary recommendations based on the fact that GPU manufacturers have absolutely no idea what you have in your PC and absolutely no idea about how good/bad your PSU really is so they presume the worst of the worst case: unusually heavily loaded PC with crappy PSU.

Heres a reveiw of the 3450 on a PC that is much more demanding then yours. The entire PC only draws like 150 watts from the wall. The manual states 300watts just to play it safe, the 3450 only draws about 50 watts by itself.

Unfortunately I'm in the UK. That card costs double in the UK-Ive already considered it.

In fact there are used cards on UK Ebay from USA with low fixed price-the postage is often double the cost of the card. (used card plus postage is more than $22)

I now have a wide screen monitor with a wide screen image. Card bought on UK Ebay for £8.50 inc postage; GeForce 6700GS, latest software downloaded from internet.

My last agp system had an x700 pro. It would run games like GTA San Andreas find, but did not support the latest pixel shader if I remember. It was more than enough for bumming around the internet, watching youtube/netflix, and running Windows 7 aero (even though you said you have XP). Those must be a dime a dozen by now.
