I built a computer back in march GTX 970 16GB Ram i5 4690k ect ect, now I have an extra gtx 660 that is just collecting dust, once winter hits or even now I would like a computer than I can put that in and leave in my room during the summer, I don't want to play AAA titles on it but I would still like to play cheap games on steam ect or games from 2010/low reqs, so a cheap build -300 less would be ideal
I have monitors and keyboards already so that doesn't need to be included neither does the OS

Solution

Would an i3 be better or no?

The i3s offer moderately better single-threaded performance at a $30-40 higher price point while without the same multithreaded performance.Since games these days can utilitilize more cores, the Athlon is a better buy at the price.

I've butchered deathrabits build a bit for these reasons.

The hm-plus is a bit better board - same price.
Aftermarket cooler - the stock and one is rank
PSU - the antec 450 is not a good unit - it has a low 12v rail capacity more akin to a good 400w - it will struggle with those components.
Case -$20 more gets you a real quality casee like the n200 with proper cable management, better build quality & good preinstalled cooling.

Its $25 over budget but worth doing.

As above ,with a 660 & for your uses the 860k is a better buy - a comparable i3 build would put you $340+ anyway.
