hey guys,

im building a pc for the first time
could you guys do a check up?
i already know about that 4670k gets really warm

CPU: i5 4570k (193)
CPU cooler : scythe mugen 3 pc hardware edition (37)
GPU: 770/280x (290)
MOBO: MSI Z87-G41 PC Mate(84)
PSU: Seasonic M12II 620w(68)
RAM: Crucial Ballistix Tactical (67)
case: zalman z11 plus (57)
HDD: seagate barracuda 1tb(52)

total: 847 euros

questions:
-Is everything compatible
-Can i SLI or xF with this PSU
-Do i have enough fan slots?

every bit of help would be appreciated.

greetings,

Thimo Beuzel

As mentioned above, if you want to use a dual gpu solution you should buy a PSU that can supply at least 750W. I also suggest getting a WD 1TB Blue instead of seagate bcuz seagate has had problems with their drives. I also suggest you get the 280x instead of the 770 cuz of that 3gb of vram

Hey thimobeuzel,

The 2 of them above are obviously correct about the PSU and the builds compatibility. About the HDD, I personally have 2 Seagates and I find no problems with mine at all. However, the talk about Seagate Barracuda not being reliable is nothing rare so if you're willing to spend the extra cash, I would recommend a Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB instead.

hey guys,

well i can buy wd-blue-wd10ezex-1tb for the same money 😀(i guess ill switch that out)
about the PSU thanks for the information now i know i cant sli in future
and about the GPU 770>280x if you look at benchmarks. I plan buying my PC in january so i will wait for Mantle
and i heard that that 1 GB Vram is only good for high res gaming(1440P etc etc) this is true right??

greetings,

Thimo Beuzel

The memory thing is hugely dependant on resolution. Right now most people are gaming on a single 1080P display, and for that there is basically no difference between a 2Gb and a 3Gb card in any game. Even up to 1440P, you won't find much of a discernible scaling difference.

........

There's quite a lot of misinformation on the subject flying around right now. The main reason that a 3Gb card is better than a 2Gb card is when you hit a game which has arbitrary limits imposed on what settings you can turn on and which you can't (basically every Rockstar game).

Obviously the higher you go in terms of detail and resolution settings, the more memory you can use. The evidence suggests however that there is not some sort of cliff performance drop-off, but a gradual decline. If you look up benchmarks for BF4 for example, and compare the performance difference between a 280X and a 770 at lower resolutions, then compare the difference at higher levels, you'll notice the gap is basically the same (different benchmarks will give different numbers, but the scaling is fairly similar). As you go higher and higher into multi monitor displays, the 2Gb card will start to suffer more frame variance, but by the time it becomes significant enough to cause major drama, the game will become basically unplayable on either card.

There is definitely a place for cards with higher memory, but for the average person 2Gb is plenty.

lets pray mantle is as godlike as everyone hopes.. then i can get better FPS and more Vram 😀

Like bf4 and bf3. Wich i will play most 😀

So if mantle gives huge boost i will go 280X

If not 770 Asus prolly

okay i wont change the PSU 😀

and what about the fan slots(or however i should call it) are there enough?
i will be having 2*80mm 3*120mm if i take the zalman z11 plus
i will be having 5*120mm if i take the zalman z9 plus(it looks way cooler but everyone says z11>z9)
and for both cases 1 CPU cooler ofcourse

A PSU doesn't have fan connectors as such, but you can run them from Molex adaptors if you need to. This does mean you can't control them though, they run at 100% speed.

The MSI Z87-G41 PC Mate has five fan headers -
2 4pin CPU fan
1 4pin system fan
2 3pin system fan

Frankly, that's as much as you should need.

CPU: i5 4570k (188) (got cheaper)
CPU cooler : scythe mugen 3 pc hardware edition (37)
GPU: 770/280x (290)
MOBO: MSI Z87-G41 PC Mate (84)
PSU: Seasonic M12II 620w (68)
RAM: Crucial Ballistix Tactical (67)
case: zalman z9 plus (54) (changed this from z11 to z9)
HDD: WD blue ezex 1tb (50) (changed this from seagate barracuda)
total: (838)

wich means i have 12euro spare/ to spend
wich means i could change the PSU to a corsair cx750m (bronze 80+) so i can SLI in the future 😀

toughts?

EDIT; thanks for the info about mobo 😀 now it looked like i was just ignoring you 😛

If it were me, I'd probably spend the extra money on potentially upgrading the motherboard or CPU cooler a little, as you might actually get a tangible performance boost from that money.

Your setup is ok as it is though. You are generally better off with a Barracuda or Caviar Blue over a Caviar Black, as often the cost difference is pretty big, and the only real difference is a longer warranty.

i can get a new mobo for 96 max

or a new cpu cooler for 50 max

mobo maybe ASRock Z87 Extreme3 even tough i would prefer an msi board because of the click bios

and cpu cooler maybe the be quiet! Shadow Rock PRO SR1
