true that. i heard nvidia banned 256mb gt pci-express' because the SLI would hurt 6800ultra sales since supposedly they would lay a smackdown in doom. wonder if its true..
No its not true, just go to the PCIe Video charts on tomshardware to see that...
Low end SLI is just braggin rights to say ya got SLI. usually the single card slot that is slightly cheaper overall is better. Right now the 6800GS (same as GT in speeds basically) is faster than 2 x 6600GT mostly and there are far less driver bugs and you get the performance boost in ALL games, not just ones with SLI profiles. Also, they didnt BAN it, its up to the vendor how they config the cards. Someone mentioned "cause the 66gt has DDR3" well thats not totaly true, earlier revisions didnt. Only the newer ones do, cause its actually cheaper for them to make and is a bit faster cause the clock higher overall (and even use less electricity and therefor produce less heat).
Dont believe evertyhign ya read, read up on real tests like on THG and Anandtech and places like that.

I might point out
there is no 256 6600gt SLI configuratin in the vga charts, just as i said earlier. also, nvidia can do whatever the hell it wants to it partners. you would be foolish to think a board company like BFG would be independent enough to survive without nvidia sending it chips. nvidia could just threaten to just with hold all those chips, and essentially starve that company of any profit whatsoever. btw, the 6600gt 256mb's
came out after the 6800ultra was phased out so does it really seem that unlikely?
