One quick question since nobody wants to answer my other post.Do chipset drivers actually improve performance.Someone told me this:
“Chipset drivers shouldn’t be touched no, those are the drivers for your motherboard. Unless you are installing some new hardware like a new cpu or gpu that requires a higher version of your motherboard then you will need to update it. In this case no don’t touch it your computer is already operating fine.”
So what do you guys get from that?

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Sounds like that is the message your someone is giving you. Whilst there is something abut that, it's too general a statement. Your question is also too general. My answer will also be too general.

Updates usually [are intended to] bring improvements. Those can be performance, security or feature improvements. Which means that in general, you should apply updates whenever possible.

Also, your someone could be talking about BIOS updates. Where sometimes, but not always, the only new feature is support for processors released after the boards was produced. Those would be cases where applying the update has zero benefit.

Chipset inf driver just helps Windows recognise device controllers on the motherboard. Ie pcie, sata, lan, wifi etc, anything relating to a chip and function.

Chipset driver can be necessary if running an older Windows lacking driver support or win updates doesn't include. Win 10 is pretty good though but like older Windows, newer motherboards can cause device identification problems until Microsoft updates it's driver library.

Oh ok.I have suddenly gotten fps drops couple days ago.Dont know why or how.I just logged into fortnite and my fps was dropping from 160 to like 30-40 or55-70 for about 1-2 seconds. My cpu temps are normal.I dont know if it a malware either, because i have not found any malware with MalwareBytes.Only thing I find is PUP files using adw cleaner. And its only 1.

List complete specs / models

Laptop or Desktop? Custom or pre-built?
Cpu
Motherboard
Ram - how many sticks/speed etc
Ssd/Hdd - Windows ? Where is everything installed on?
Gpu?
Psu? Model and power

How did you monitor temps?

"That is a pic from 2 weeks ago but checked it today and seemed to be fine" So it's all good now? Could have just been Windows updates running or something.

What do you mean by installing an external ssd? Is it an usb enclosure you put an ssd in? What's it used for?

If there's still a problem;

How are you monitoring temps and when?

Monitor usages with msi afterburner while gaming, there are youtube vids showing how to set it up.

How much space is left on your hdd?

It is possible you're infected and malwarebytes is unable to detect. Could be infected with bitmining malware if recently installed software like torrent programs. Full wipe and reinstall if nothing else works.

Oh ok.Is there another way to remove malwares without reinstalling windows. Its a very long process installing all drivers again so i really dont want to do that tbh.

How are you monitoring temps?

How long have you been running fornite off the ssd? Was performance fine before?

Have you tried running the game on your main hdd? How much space is left on it?

Reinstalling Windows is the only way if you were infected and nothing is detecting whatever it is. That's if you're infected, only just put it out there but don't think you are.

Reinstalling Windows may fix other issues if anything is corrupt or installed drivers using useless driver booster programs.

Ok.Installed the ssd about 3 hrs ago.Downloaded fortnite on it,no big changes since I tought it was gonna change something. There is like 830-900 gb left on the hdd.I monitored temps using speccy.Only when my pc was idle tho

Use Realtemp to monitor temps and cpu speed. HWinfo64 is another good program. Realtemp is easier to look at. Both better than speccy.

Let us know what temps you get on idle and in game. Alt tab out of the game to see temps.

So fortnite was on the hdd originally? Did it ever run fine?

Have you tried reinstalling video drivers? From Geforce.com/drivers. Select custom clean install.

It was fine on hdd.But 2 days ago I loaded in and I started having fps drops,so I bought an ssd to see if it helped but not much difference. And no,i have not try reinstalling video drivers

Fps drops is more associated with (but not limited to) high temps and throttling. So check temps and cpu speed while gaming. Same with gpu temps and speeds.

Hdd/ssd wouldn't usually cause fps drops unless you're running out of ram and the pagefile is being used.
