Chipsets

I am not real sure on this but it seems the chipset is pretty much the backbone of a motherboard.

What chipsets are available at the moment, and what is the differences?

There was a guy who had a pretty good web page that explained all the available chipsets with tables, etc. he posted a link to it here like a week ago. If you search in this group for chipset you might find it.
