BlankFor some reason, my daughter's computer ALWAYS runs chkdsk on startup
every day. It normally finds nothing wrong, which makes me think that she
has turned on a switch somewhere to perform this task daily.
She is running XP Pro with a FAT32 (!!!) file system.

Go to Kelly's site at http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_abc.htm. Click
on "C" and scroll to Check Disk - Disk Checking Runs Upon Boot for some
tips.

FAT32 is really an outdated file system, why not convert to ntfs, open cmd
prompt,
type:CONVERT C: /FS:ntfs You'll need to restart computer for conversion,the
CHKDSK should end after,if not,reopen cmd,type:CHKntfs /X C:
