Oh thats just great.. I finally weaned myself off of Civ IV ... lost way to much sleep from.. Civ III, II and I... and now those damn crack dealers from Friaxis are at it again. My wife and kids will miss me 😉

[citation][nom]hannibal[/nom]The new hex based map and tweaked fight system sounds really good! If the battless are more strategially involving, this will be a dream... if I only could find enough time to this... well the sleeping is ower estimated hobby at best...[/citation]

I was actually a little worried to see the hex shape map. I have grown accustomed to moving my units with the numberboard of my keyboard, and it seems that I am not going to be able to do that anymore, but I can adjust.

When I saw Civ 5's hex grids for the first time, I squealed like a kid at Christmas. With everything I keep reading, I'm looking forward to it more and more.

And as for Alpha Centaurus, I fondly remember that game. It had a certain *soul* that Civ2/3 lacked back during that time period. I would certainly enjoy seeing a sequel to that as well, although with how advanced the Civilization engines are getting with their impressive mod tools, an AC2 sequel could possibly be as simple as a well-done mod.

I wish all developers valued their communities as much as these guys do. LAN support, mod support etc. you won't see these from the greedy Activision and many other companies. This is why I will buy this game and avoid others.

I've only WATCHED my friend play Civ IV and I can say it's a quality game. I'll probably pick it up. I seriously think that there is a graph where as the quality of a game goes up, the tendency for someone to pirate it goes down.

I've been playing the Civ series since Civ II and they always have been fantastic games that I spent countless hours playing. They only seem to get better and better as well. I most certainly will be buying this and I'll be seeing all of you online.

Oh and make sure you research ceremonial burial your going to need it when I am crushing you ;-)

[citation][nom]Moshu78[/nom]That's because you're not old enough to remember the original civilizations. AoE was just a Microsoft clone. CIV forever![/citation]

Er... How could AoE be a Microsoft clone, considering 1) AoE was being made before Ensemble was picked up by them, and 2) They don't even have the same overall gameplay.

Anyway, I guess I'm glad for the Civ fans, but it's never been my cup of tea.

I have lost so much sleep because of this series. It always starts out with the idea that 'I'll just play a quick game' and it ends up taking over my whole weekend.

Its funny. I really liked alpha centauri, but never got into the Civ franchise... I will probably pick this up in the first 33% or 50% off steam sale.

I have played since civ gold. AC was awesome and has one thing that all the other civ games are lacking, customizable units. Not to forget to mention the planet buster.

I still play Civ IV quite often, the mods are great too. I remember getting it the day it was released, had to ask the clerk working at best buy, he had them stashed in the back. I see myself doing the same thing with this one.

Civ is one of the great games that is NEVER the same thing twice, AoE failed at that, always the same strategy required.

I am surprised no one has mentioned my favorite Civ based strategy game: Alpha Centauri. AC has my all time favorite tech upgrade/secret project with the Nano Factory.

[citation][nom]philip222[/nom]The Total war series is better than the Civ series .[/citation]
The combat in Total War is better, empire management is better in Civ. If they mated the two together, THAT would be an excellent game. Though insanely tedious.

[citation][nom]ezz777[/nom]Ok, yes massive Civ fan BUT... ok anyone reading on... the promo looks essentially Civ 4 in hex. What is going to make us move beyond the too many hours i've invested in Civ 4?[/citation]
Major AI and balance changes. now to make the game harder they won't have to resort to letting the computer cheat

Oh man, that's just f'n great, another civ game that I'll sit down at 6 pm thinking I'll play for an hour or two and then next thing I'll know the sun is rising. No series of games has ever caused me to lose the time like Civ has.

Im wondering if there is much room to improve the gameplay... The balance has always been great but judging by trailer from E3, not sure how much different the gameplay experience will be.

Pick a spot, settle, create units, research tech, explore and expand then take over your neighbors land. The culture element was fun but easy to exploit (culture bomb on your neighbors doorstep and assimilate cities). Maybe there will be something to balance this?

Here's hoping they pull it off!

europa universalis was always better i think, especially the AGCEEP mod

Civ is great for the depth. But for fast paced fun action you gotta stick with supcom2 imo. I find myself drawn to faster paced games ie cs > halo type shooters. Ill wait to BUY and play civ 5 before i pass judgement, but others are a bit slower action wise for my taste. And starcraft sux, its an insult to compare blizzard games to real pc games so please dont.
