Cleaning CPU

Can anyone recommend what is the best thing to use when you need to clean up:

o Thermal Compound
o Pencil Lead/Graphite off L1 Bridges?

I've been having my troubles with O/Cing and need to clean up the CPU from the previous attempt.

Lead from the L1 bridges - I just erase them with the eraser
Pink stuff on chip - I use Acetone or nail polish remover
Arctic Silver thermal compound - It just wipes off with a tissue

Thanks for that....didn't want to flush a $240 Australian chip down the gurgler.
