Hello

I have an Acer Aspire 5740 laptop with a 320GB hard disk out of which only 69 GB is used

I want to install a 120GB Samsung SSD 850 EVO to upgrade the same

I have bought an external casing to help me clone the same through the USB
My question was which software I should use to clone the Same?
Can I use the Samsung SSD Migration software ?
I have read that you have to be very careful which software you use else the cloned drive will not become bootable

Thanks for advising

If you have an 8GB USB Drive just download the Windows 10 Media Creation Utility and select if you want x64 since you want 64 bit and then just upgrade windows though that (Just run the Setup.exe) then upgrade.

Once in windows 10, right click the start menu, click on system and make sure it is activated. If it is great. Just take out the drive, install the SSD, boot the USB drive, install windows 10, and it should activate without issue.

and that is it. just tell it You don't have a key and select Home edition since that is what you got and you will be good to go.

Hello

I successfully migrated from HDD to SSD on my Acer 5740 MS2286 laptop

I first upgraded to Win 10 in my old HDD and ensured that the Win 10 was activated.
Thereafter i downloaded a USB Bootable Win 10 Software from Windows site.

I then swapped my hard disk in the laptop to SSD and installed a fresh copy of the OS
I skipped the win key when i was asked for it.
After completely loading the OS, I checked and found that the Win 10 was automatically activated

Thanks everyone for helping
