CMOS failed message after bios update

Only happened the first time

The only difference now is a new logo screen before the usual bios even screen, it says it's updated but looks about the same as regular bios

So do you have a persistent problem, or a problem that happened only once? Does your mobo have a second BIOS that you can switch to?

How old is the cmos battery, supposed to last 5 years or so.

If in doubt and comfortable with altering BIOS settings, disconnect mains, pull the battery for 5 minutes and let the motherboard default, if BIOS has any corrupt info, it will recover to factory defaults. Then just change BIOS settings and save.

Just the first time after updating the bios (for the first time),
I used the bios upgrade utility and the bios update from the download page from Biostars website

Sounds like a corrupt install, save the bios image to a pen driver, zap the bios as above and reflash from pen drive.
