I'm with dish TV and have satellite internet installed. The other day my modem wasn't powering on so they sent me a new one. the new modem powers on but when I plug in the coax cable that comes from the satellite it causes the modem to power off. I also tried my old modem to see if it was the same issue with the coax cable and it was. obviously the modems are fine and its something with the coax cable....what could this be and how can I fix it?

I have no idea how sat internet works other than it goes into outer space and bounces off satellites, the same way the tv signal does. In a lot of places, they just repackage other peoples products [AT&T uverse, DSL, etc], but you might find the answers you are looking for here
