Tighter memory timings help AMD Fanboys hold out hope for AM2 BUT, these numbers bode VERY well for Conroe, as it shows that you could get a cheapo DELL, for instance with higher latency(cheap) RAM...and still get world-class performance....Not the case with AM2. 😀

Wow... Judging by those figures it looks like Intel just found their answer to AMD's integrated memory controller...

That is very good to finally see tested, and somewhat surprising! I guess I'll be getting the cheapest, good quality RAM and spend a little more on that CPU or GPU... 8)

Madshrimps posted a max overclocking on air article for the X6800 here.

It was only a revision 4, but they still reached 3.3ghz before any change to the Vcore was needed, and then 3.75ghz on air. Article includes some light benches.

Wow, so a stock 2.93Ghz can be flipped with ease to 3.3Ghz and it would run stable without any cooling consideration besides what was provided in the box? That sure sounds awsome if it is true

i have every intention of OC'ing my future 2.4 6600 to 3Ghz, all i am trying to decide is whether i shoudl go for air or water cooling, even though i wont be going past 3Ghz.

I think that you will reach 3.2GHz with E6600 stable using aircooling and with only few % voltage increase.
If my Venice is stable overclocked 35%, why not Conroe?

Well it was mroe a question of the motherboard than the processor, i doubt i'll be able to afford a premium 965 or ATI r600 board that will allow the kind of FSB overclocks that woudl be needed.

The E6600 can OC to 3.1ghz without a vcore change, and probably with stock cooling I'm sure. Since the X6800 can OC to 3.3ghz before it needs a Vcore change, that seems to be the ballpark figure for the majority of Conroes. They can OC to 3.7-4ghz on air cooling alone with some of the bigger aftermarket coolers.

I Just saw this today on Intel's website -

Intel has a Conroe-ready motherboard .

I hope it's a good one. I would like to hear anyone's comments about this board after checking out the link -

http://www.intel.com/products/motherboard/dp965lt/index.htm

Is this board missing anything important besides Dual Graphics.

Can you tell if it allows overclocking, tweaking, etc ?

The 965 boards wont be out untill July 4th for the latest, sorry i cant remember which computex article i read it in.

I dont SLI so i have no problem with 1 PCIE x16 slot,

its supposed to have better memory performance, and i believe it allows you to set memory speed independent of fsb speed.

please correct me if i'm wrong anyone

I'm not interested in SLI or Crossfire either. I just want a good, fast, tweakable, reliable and stable board.
I would expect it to be very tweakable, and overclock well also. The days of Intel "poo-pooing" overclocking seem to be over. They have to be thinking.."If you can't beat 'em, join 'em".

Pretty sure that is only a feature of ATI's RD600 chipset due out sometime this fall, possibly September from what I have heard to date.

Yes, indeed the 965P chipset does offer better performance over it's 975X cousin.

Anyone knows the prices of the conroe other than the X690 which cost $999

I want to know the rough price of the E670. Which i intend to get. Any links to pricing?

guys, u know wot? Intel i965 Chipset does support total of 8GB of main memory but only if you are using DDR2-533 || DDR-667 it won't support 8GB if you are using DDR2-800, in case of DDR2-800 it will support only 4GB MAX! i wonder why is that so? if DDR2-667 can be used in 8GB config then why not DDR2-800? i personally think that as because (1 X 2GB) DDR2-800 is expensive and rarely avaiable (but its avaiable at newegg) therefore they decided not to mention it or wot? the MCH won't with DDR2-800 8GB of RAM? any idea?

There are links throughout this thread, although I'd suggest reading the very first post as it's in there too 😉

Anyone else following Coolaler and his 2.4ghz Kentsfield? He already OCed the thing to 3.2ghz on stock voltage... It used two B0 revision stepping 4 Conroes. at that, not the better 5 stepping... 8O

anyone know when the intel nvidia nforce 5 series motherboards are due to be released? i am thinking about getting one if the price is right.

The launch of the nForce 5 should coincide with Conroe's launch, if not a little before so that'd be in July. I think this is worth a read though:

http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=32592

The initial nForce 5s look to have weaker memory controller performance. Personally, I think the RD600 looks to be the more promising enthousiast board for now. I'd hold off on things though until we see how this Core Multiplexing business pans out. I have a suspicion it may be a a i975X only feature in order to differentiate this older chipset.

Well that is interesting info... guess it's between 965P and RD600 for me 😀

When you say multiplexing, you mean in how Core will handle hardware sharing with virtualization?

I'm really starting to get stir crazy, i want to build my new PC, i can't stand my slow crap PC anymore, Someone call Intel and tell them to hurry up.

u call.

I did, i couldn't get a straight answer from Intel, they said it will be out when it is out. lol

Well Dell got the new Woodcrest CPU's in their "
Dell Precision Workstation 690's" up for sale.

So lets hope Conroe is next, and SOONER than later.

Not sure if you saw -- I think you responded, some pre-order sites are stating July 5 availability -- I don't believe that, but it would be cool if Intel pulled it in by 3 weeks.

It sure would be nice for even a week earlier launches 😉
But, i guess if there are no Motherboards , what point is there to launch early for Intel.
