This happens a lot when trying to put Windows 7 on old incompatible hardware. A little late now, but for future reference, you should have used the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor. http://windows.microsoft.com/upgradeadvisor

As Tlmck stated, HP themselves only appear to support Windows 2000 and Windows XP on the HP Compaq NX6110 Notebook PC.

If by chance you still have Windows XP installed on the machine, it is strongly advised that you first run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor in an effort to ensure your PC is ready for Windows 7 and compatible with Windows 7.

You may also want to utilize the Windows 7 Compatibility Center to verify compatibility for your sound card directly.
