So I have 2 graphics cards:

Nvidia GeForce RTX “TufGaming” 3070
Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060
(Both are 8 GB)

Specs of PC are:

AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D 8 core
Prime B550-Plus
32 GB RAM

I was told that the 3070 would work better than the 4060.

I would like to know if that’s true or if I should put the 4060 in.

Agreed, I had a 3070 and it was a beast for it's generation and price point. Could you not consider trading in both and investing in a better card though? Especially with the 5000 series releasing this month and at much more reasonable prices than was anticipated.

A quick ballpark reference is the GPU hierarchy chart here at Toms: https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gpu-hierarchy,4388.html

Look at the resolution you play at, then check the chart for the GPUs and how they rank. You can see that 3070 ranks a good bit higher than 4060.

In terms of theoretical numbers on paper for reference models (keeping in mind that all numbers aren't comparable between different generations):

3070: 5888 CUDA cores, 184 Tensors, 46 RT cores, Boost clock 1725 MHz, AI TOPS 163, Mem bandwidth 608 GB/s, 220 W TDP.

4060: 3072 CUDA cores, 96 Tensors, 24 RT cores, Boost clock 2460 MHz, AI TOPS 242, Mem bandwidth 272 GB/s, 115 W TDP.
