Compatible RAM with Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3

I have a Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 (rev 4.0) motherboard and the HyperX Fury 2x4GB 1866 RAM kit didn't work with my system. Is this RAM compatible or do I need to buy some different RAM?

So I'm not 100% sure if the RAM is bad or if it just doesn't work with my motherboard. Would the same type of RAM at 1600 work? My CPU is an AMD FX-8350.

Should I buy a kit or a single stick of RAM, the RAM didn't work at all in my motherboard no matter using 1 or 2 or any of the slots.

That ram is compatible with your motherboard. Either bad ram or bad motherboard. For dual channel you should use slots 1 & 3 or 2 & 4

The motherboard isn't bad if it ran with a different stick of memory is it? I don't know what kind of RAM was used but it started up my computer. I took it to a computer supply store and they tested my computer and using a stick of RAM they had on hand it worked, he suggested I buy 1600 RAM instead of 1866. He also only used one stick of RAM.

The ram you have is 100% compatible. But you could switch it for a DDR3 1600.

The DRAM is fine unless it's bad, compatibility is there, the bigger question may well be what CPU, if the CPU can't handle the DRAM then there will be problems. You'll want a mid to upper FX CPU to run at 1866, would suggest making sure you have the latest BIOS, and if you already do, then reset the CMOS and try a single stick in slot 1, if no joy do same with the second stick...If still no joy, may have a short on the mobo, can try it with the mobo out of the case, try with different sticks, or test your sticks in another rig, or could have bent/broken pins on the CPU, could be a bad mobo also.

The CPU is an AMD FX-8350 black edition. The RAM I had didn't work no matter which slot I used or how many I used. A different stick of RAM was used and it worked. The computer hasn't been completed, I haven't gotten it to Post yet. I just put it together this week and found out today it was the RAM that was my problem.

Switch it out for a better brand like G.Skill or Corsair. Not saying Kingston is bad, just saying the others are better.

OK i had the same issue tonight
Really frustrating
The trick is!!!!

Add 1 other mem chip to your mother board
BTW im also using 990 FXA GD80 - V2

I have the FX 8350 & the r9 290x
I bought 2 sticks of 4g hyberx blue some shit clocked @ 1866

ok so add 1 other mem chip to your mother board that you know works
install it in with ur new ram so that the MOBO bios loads up for you

in the Mobo settings Change the ram voltage to 1.7 -- only
Also Manually change the Ram Speed to 1866

Then Resart

if that doesnt work u have to then put old ram in ur system
boot up windows goto msi website
download LIVE UPDATE version 6
download all ur updates and DO TOTAL INSTALL

THEN REPEAT .... shutdown
u should only have the 2 new ram chips in now
Bios will load up
change voltage to 1.7 change speed to 1866
if u cant get bios and crashs put 1 old chip in
change settings
restart computer
before computer comes back up take out old chip

restart a few times to save settings
viola

I am using the 990fxa ud3 rev 4.0 with a fx 6300 processor and Gskill Sniper 2x4gb 1866mhz. I changed the frequency to 1866 in the bios with no problems. Tested w P95.

Would I not be able to add two more sticks 4 x 4gb at 1866mhz with my processor?

It depends on your individual CPU, and willingness to make BIOS changes, a 6300 might well carry 4 sticks of 1866. The above reference as to 1866 and AMD CPUs is wrong, it's what AMD offers as a suggestion (and they worded their suggestions rather poorly), I've run numerous FX CPUs with 32GB 4x8GB at both 2133 and 2400 (mine in sig). They (AMD) state that the FX is capable of 1866 at 1 stick per channel (or two sticks) but the FX CPUs with a strong MC (memory controller) and ones ability in adjusting BIOS settings can exceed their 'suggestion' easily....They don't really say it anywhere publicly but in their BIOS and Kernal Programming guide they identify that the FX CPUs have a native 1333 MC (memory controller)

I have the same issue: i have bought Hyperx Fury 2 x 8GB Ddr3 1866 RAM kit and It didn't work with my system. I don't know what to do. My old ram (the ones I sold just today) g skills 4 x 2 GB 2133 mhz worked great. Can anybody help me with this problem? It is the motherboard compatibility?

I'm also having difficulty with using the 8GB sticks. I have this motherboard rev4.1. It boots fine with a 4GB stick. And since it says that it will support 32GB with 4 slots I bought a 8GB stick. But the motherboard will not bootup at all - No BIOS screen -- nothing.
So at first I thought I bought some defective memory sticks.

I bought the 4GB stick from TigerDirect, ADATA XPG V1 4GB Desktop Memory Module - DDR3 1600, PC3-12800, Blue - AX3U1600C4G11-SD
And the 8GB stick is from Amazon, ADATA USA XPG V1.0 OC Series 8GB DDR3 1600MHZ PC3 12800 8GBx1, Dark Blue AX3U1600W8G11-RD

The manual doesn't elude to any other specifics about the memory type other than what's in their description.

Did I buy the wrong 8GB stick ?
