Hey guys, i purchased an SSD like 2 months ago and its been laying around ever since because i have no idea how to install it without losing all my of my downloads etc, i have a 2 TB HDD right now but i want my computer to boot fast so i was wondering if it is possible to put my OS etc onto the SSD and keep all my data.

Something you should know is i dont have a windows 7 disc and i am using a illegal windows 7.

Is there anyway to install the SSD , save my data aswell as not use a windows 7 disc, if it isnt possible to save my data i will just have to restart which i dont really have an issue with its just if i can avoid it its better.

Without looking at the obvious that cloning is out of the question because most likely your SSD is lower capacity than the 2TB drive so you will have to reinstall your OS.

A clean install is always better when going from a spinning drive to SSD.

A fresh clean install of the operating system, drivers, utilities, software applications, and games is the preferred method of installation.

The first problem you'll have to contend with is your illegal copy of Windows 7. Microsoft might not authenticate the operating system. I am also assuming you do not have a key for the authentication. Complete copies of Windows 7 on a dvd or USB flash drive and a key can be purchased online for $80.00 or less. I build pc's for customers. I usually buy complete copies of the Windows 7 Pro 64-bit OEM version from newegg.con when they are on sale. They are also available from Amazon and other vendors.

The second problem is your motherboard. You'll have to determine what type of ssd's your motherboard can support.

The rest depends on what you want to do. Did you mean you just wanted Windows on the ssd or did you mean you wanted Windows and all your other stuff on the ssd?
