I had 2GBs of ram in my computer and my motherboard can support up to 4GBs (checked online) but when I install 4GB of ram into the motherboard and turn it on it constantly beeps at me and never turns on! But when I put the old ram sticks in it turns on fine, is there any fix to this?

Solution
Hello... read my earlier post... as I update my thoughts on many subjects/posts... getting to 4gb DDR2 was a upgrade nightmare on many common brands DELL, HP, ACER. E-machines etc... If you verified the Motherboard and RAM compatability, then a BIO's upgrade may be available to do this.
If you are dedicated to this project... Finding a USED Name Brand Motherboard, on EBAY, that has verifiable results and support, Maybe your only option... What Processor/CPU are you Using? What is your Motherboard Model and brand?
Beeps will usually indicate bad memory. Have you made sure the RAM is seated correctly? I would take it all out and re-seat it. If you still have issues replace the original stick or RAM with your new stick to see if it's the new RAM itself. If it boots with the new RAM being in place of the old you may have a bad DIMM on your laptop motherboard.

The new ram sticks work fine in my other computer cause that's where they came from, but I want to put them in my other computer, I have put the original ram sticks back in the computer and it turns on fine so it can't be the motherboard port, and I have made sure they are in securely, also it's a desktop computer.

The 4gb I have put in is made up of two 2gb stick so all the slots are filled

Hello... There are different types of Ram on the inside, DDR2 / DDR3, although the outsides can look the same... Sometimes you need a BIO's upgrade to get the motherboard to see/use a larger size of Ram... Something is not compatable, and further searching of the numbers on the Ram could shead Light... Did you try just one Stick, 2GB, into the computer?

Both sets of the ram sticks are ddr2, and also I tried both 2gb sticks in there and the beeping happened, but when I put the two 1gb sticks in it works fine. Both sets are ddr2
