So, it doesn't matter what the task is I am doing on my computer, and seems to be random. This has been happening for months now. Basically the screen will go black and then the monitors "No Display Input" message comes up, with the only fix being to restart the computer. Now everything is still running fine in the background as I can hear music when it goes to the black screen. I have a feeling that if I was to remote access my desktop I would see the "Nvidia Display Driver has stopped working" message, however it doesn't recover. It can be just secs to minutes or even hours between the issue occurring but it is beyond frustrating.

I have used a program to remove all old drivers and reinstall the latest one but it does not fix the problem. Does anyone have any idea what is causing this?

My System:

Nvidia GeForce GTX 770 Classified 4Gb
Intel Core i7 4790K @ 4.0GHz (water cooled)
Asus Maximus VII Hero Motherboard
Corsair CMD32GX3M4A1600C9 32GB (4x8GB) 1600MHz DDR3
Corsair AX1200i ATX Modular Power Supply
Samsung 850 Pro 256GB SSD
Samsung 840 Evo 256GB SSD (OS)

Solution
if its a 2gb card, then its fine with that memory volume...on the contrary, if its a 1gb card, then u can try that fix...but i am not too sure whether thats a universal fix...
the op in the linked thread has the problem due to minecraft which is a cpu intensive game, and hence the buffer stack overflow to system ram, to cope up with the cpu utilization parallel to the gpu...
usually display driver crash message is a sign of an ageing/dying/badly maintained card...
what all did u do for fixing it upto now??? please elaborate with methods and results...

I don't think the problem lies with the monitor, and I have already tried adjusting power settings and did not help. thanks

Went in to the BIOS. I did not have a chance to change from the dedicated PCI-E to integrated. Kind of defeats the purpose too.

I have rolled back to previous and native drivers and cleared every trace of old drivers at the same time with no success. I guess this weekend its time to get out the air hose, some isopropyl alcohol and thermal paste. Cheers

So the problem has changed from me needing to restart my computer to the display driver stopping and recovering constantly.

In the directX Diagnostic Tool it shows my GTX 770 as having approx, 20318MB(!) of memory. Could this be part of the problem? Also how to I make all application use only the video memory of the graphics card and not the system memory. I ask this because of this thread:

http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-2227490/nvidia-driver-crashing-recovering.html

This issue is beyond frustrating. The problem doesn't even exclusively occur during high load applications, just browsing the internet can trigger it.
