Hello I have had my homebuilt system for about a year now and it has recently started freezing and crashing infrequently.(I didn't really know where to put this topic)

500GB Western Digital Caviar Blue 3.5" Hard Disk Drive

4GB Corsair XMS3 1333MHz DDR3 Dual Channel Memory Kit

AMD Phenom II X6 1055T 2.8GHz Hexa Core Processor

OCZ StealthXstream II 500W Power Supply

Gigabyte GA-MA78LMT-US2HAM3 AM3 Motherboard

KFA2 NVIDIA GeForce GTS 450 LTD OC 1GB Graphics Card

Sony DDU-1681S DVD-ROM Drive 18x SATA Internal

Cooler Master Elite 430 Black Tower Case

The freezing does not occur after any particular program is started and I have cleaned out the inside. I did not build the system myself and am no expert but any help would be appreciated...

Hi,

First I would check for viruses:

boot in safe mode w networking and download malwarebytes / hitman pro and scan

If clean check w temperatures like speedfan or check gigabyte website for temp monitoring program.

do you have bsod code.

You can get bluescreenview and submit the bug code

good luck

Actually his problem is probably related to the psu as random crashes and freezing is almost always indicative of psu, overheating, or memory. I would run memtest 86 via a boot disk and if it passes 10+ times your memory is clean, i would then swap the power supply for a 600watt and check.

He PSU is not the problem, you can run that PC with a ~400w PSU easily.

i agree with dextermat, you should check for viruses and stuff like that.

*What are your CPU temps?

*Are all drivers updated?

*Have you tried resetting the BIOS?

*Run CrystalDiskMark, i have a felling that your hard drive is the problem.
