Computer does not power up

I built this computer 3 years ago. I am running a Hyper 580watt PSU with a ASUS A8N-32 SLI Deluxe motherboard with a AMD 4400+ Dual core processor

Everything worked fine since I had this thing built other than the PSU crapped out on me 2 years ago, but I got it replaced and all is well.

I reformatted my computer last week and got everything loaded back up that I wanted.

I come home from work today to turn on my computer to pay a bill online and the damn thing won't do anything. No post no beeps nothing. Completely dead. My fiancee used the internet to pull a recipie off it and turned it off like normal. But when I try to turn it on it doesn't work.

I have a steady green light on my motherboard, so that seems to be receiving power. I tried unplugging everything but the essentials and booting and still nothing happens.

I even tried resetting my CMOS where according to the manual, I took out the battery and moved the jumper for about 10 seconds, moved the jumper back then replaced the battery.

Still the thing wont do anything.

Do you think my PSU went bad again? Or is my motherboard bad even though that status light is on?

I don't really have time to mess with it now since I will be gone this weekend and going on vacation the 2nd week in August.
I could possibly try some things this coming week. See if my PSU is bad, maybe try placing a new switch to see if it boots.

It sure sounds like a dead PSU to me.

If you have another PSU try using it too boot up the system, avoid adding the graphics card if the testing PSU isnt strong enough, you should atleast get it to be able to spin up the HDD and boot even if you cant see anything.

What are the full specs on the system, include manufacturer for all parts please especially PSU.

Occams razor is not of the disposable variety. If it really is another dead psu and you've been using it a the same residence as the last time this happened then this could be indicative of a more dangerous issue, such as a site wiring fault. It might be worth paying a certified electrician to check your property.

I took some time last night instead of working out to figure out what was wrong. Seems it was the power supply again. I already contacted the company about it. I currently have a Thermaltake 430watt PSU in there now and it seems to be doing the trick.


It is not the same place I was at when the problem happened before. I was in an apartment when it first happened, then bought a house and it happened there. I also have the computer connected through power conditioning equipment. So, I don't think that wiring is at fault.
