Question Computer Hardware Issue

Been having what I think is a hardware issue. My computer over the past few days has been "locking up" where I can still move the mouse but everything goes unresponsive. This typically happens often randomly usually after an hour. I've done countless software fixes including updating my motherboard and running fixes. I've done a memtest86 and a windows memory diagnostic with no errors so I'm more inclined to think it's my graphics card. However from my understanding my symptoms aren't the typical video card failure. I realize that this is most likely a hardware issue but is it possible it's a software problem?
I need to know what I need to replace possibly.
My specs:
Ryzen 7 1700x
Radeon HD 7970
16GB Corsair Ram

That doesn't sound like anything to do with your graphics card. Do you have an SSD or just a regular HDD?

I have a SSD as my boot along with two other HDD hard drives.

Yes sorry wasn't specific, it goes completely unresponsive so I have to turn it off manually.

my guess would be ram or hdd but could be anything. have you tried it without the gpu and see if it does the same then you can rule out the graphics card.

I'm no expert on the field but Isnt my gpu my graphics card? Although I have run it without it just to see if it would turn on since I have no integrated graphics of any sort and I don't exactly have a way to display my monitor without it. I'm currently in the process of testing if it's one particular stick of ram since I have a 8x2, so far one has crashed with it with the other to be determined. If both of them still cause crashes individually could possibly both sticks be at fault? Should I try running without my HDD's as well?
