Computer Heating Up And Fans at 100%

I recently upgraded my GPU, and since then my computer has been very hot around the motherboard when playing games. The fans also make loud, unsettling sounds in short bursts. (10-20 seconds)

I downloaded GPU Temp and realized that my card was fairly cool, never really surpassed 60c while gaming.

Today I decided to open the side panel and start the computer to get a better look at the air flow and see what exactly is heating up so much.

Seems like the motherboard is the hottest as far as I'm aware. The GPU and PSU are in the coolest area of the computer. Any ideas on what could be causing this?

What is your cpu temp under load?
How do you know the motherboard is hot? Hot in computer terms is different than hot to us. There may be hot air exhausting that is hot to your touch, but as long as the chips are staying where they should it's fine.

Sounds like your fans might just need replacing.

download speccy its free an read off what the temps are please we have the component parts knowledge we need the temps to make a judgement

My CPUs temp is around 40c right now with chrome and teamspeak open.
GPU is 45c

Yes I am, and I was just stress testing a bit.
CPU temp - around 70c
GPU temp - around 65-70c

70c for that CPU is pretty hot. Verging on too hot.

The GPU is perfectly cool.

Testing a bit more, CPU is rising to 75c. This is when I exit the game. Why would this be happening? Very annoying, can't play games because after I buy this nice new GPU because of the heat risk.

Yep, too hot. You need to fix it.

First you can remove the cooler and then CORRECTLY clean off and re-apply thermal paste. IF that does not work, it might be time for a new cooler.

70C is about max you want on an AMD chip like that, but if it was under stress testing hitting 70C is fine.

So what is the problem? Your parts aren't running that hot. If your fans are making terrible noises, probably crappy bearings and time to replace them.

Yes, his parts are hot. HE said his CPU is 75 after he exits a game. Not a benchmark, a game. His CPU is overheating.

Well, I wasn't playing a very intensive game (WoW) and the CPU would continue to heat up as I played. It just maxed at around 75c. That is when I exited the game because I didn't want to risk overheating. That's only after about 10-15 mins of playing.

I'm not too sure cleaning the fans or even getting new fans would do the trick, as it would probably help. I think it's time for a new CPU. I think this one may have trouble keeping up. It is fairly old after all.

You just need a better cooler. I wouldn't waste money on a new cpu until you cool this one. The new guy might have raised the temp in your case past the tipping point

Some new information aswell. I tried running the same game on very low graphics with no problem at all. Upped the graphics and the fan and heat started almost immediately.

Also something important, I only have 2 fans in atm, discluding the GPU. One heatsink and one pushing out of the back. The motherboard only supports 2 fans.

I would get another fan and install it in the front as an intake.

There are many CPU cooler that will likely fit. Any budget?

That's the problem, my motherboard only supports 2 fans. I would have to remove one.
I don't know generally how much fans cost. Havn't changed them out, other than the one that came with the case I recently bought.

umm what case? can always add a fan controller to power your case fans i dont use my mobo to power my case fans just the cpu fans on mobo

ok here goes. 1 your micro atx mobo is neutering you in several aspects first being 1 3pin system fan, second is your pcie slot is only 2.0 an you've got a gtx 970 with a 3.0 pcie which is also getting neutered.it'll run just not to full potential. heat problem on cpu get a better heatsink, like hyper 212,tx3 anything better than stock. fan flow problem get another side fan an add a fan controller as to only having 1 3pin on mobo.

You are 100% wrong. Plain and simple.

A gtx970 won't be bottlenecked at all by this motherboard. http://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articles/Impact-of-PCI-E-Speed-on-Gaming-Performance-518/ Have a look at the single card benchmarks. there is no difference with a gtx TITAN. The motherboard is not going to limit your card in any way OP. Don't worry.

I also do not recommend a side fan. 90% of the time they do more harm than good.
