computer not detecting graphics card

So i just got an old e machines PC it has 4 gigs of ddr2, 2.70 ghz pentium etc. anyway the pc boots fine everything works correctly. I put a sightly used xfx raden r7 250 2gb gddr3 i upgraded the psu and seat the GPU i connect the VGA cable and there is just a black screen and my monitor goes into power saving mode. the fan spins up so it gets power and when i plug the VGA back into the motherboard it displays. if i go into device manager there is no card detected and i tried installing the drivers but it does not detect the card i tried to set the graphics priority to pcie and still nothing, i am so confused if you could please help me that would be great thanks!

Do you have any other PCIe slots you could try on the motherboard?

Have you used this card in any other computer?

see if there any bios updates. also look in the bios for vidoe ram size see if it defaulted to 512.

no there is only one, and yeah i used it in my rig a year ago for a temporary card when my other one died for 2 months

How do you check for a bios update, and there is nothing in the bios regarding video memory (that i can find) thanks...sorry im new to bios stuff

I tried disabling the igpu and still nothing

the issue is the mb chipset. that mb uses nvidia chipset and not intel. so the onboard gpu and gpu are fighting each other.

Somewhere in your bios settings there is an option to make the PCIe slot the primary video. Be default it is using on board, but it is detecting the card and they are fighting each other. Making the PCIe primary should fix that. It seems that eMachines are notorious for this issue. If you are setting it to PCIe as default, than your AMD card is bad or your bios might need flashing, could be corrupt. But if there is a PCIe slot on the board, than it should be possible. The tech support for eMachines might be able to help you out. Good luck.

bo i missed that part when i replied. to the thread starter the pc uses both nvidia chipset for the mb and has nvidia as the main gpu. it wont let any amd gpu work. you have to use nvidia gpu so it see the cards as sli set up.

Let us know how it turns out. I had a PC with an onboard Nvidia GPU that I was able to disable and put an AMD in before. It could depend on the manufacturer of the board, but if you can disable it in BIOS I really don't see how it can deny an AMD since the other is turned off. Keep us updated so that anyone in the future we will know. But I did see someone reference that they had gotten it to work on that same model eMachine before.
