I overclocked my e8400 to 3.6GHZ

Settings: http://i.imgur.com/GntWu.jpg

It's very stable. I had it doing y-cruncher overnight and nothing bad happened. Memtest checks out okay too.

However, it will randomly seem to "lose" it's overclocked settings. I can hear the computer try to start, shut off after about a second, and then restarts at the default clock settings. What's going on???

When you say the BIOS resets to Default, does that also mean you have to reset the date and time? If so, you may want to replace the battery on the motherboard. If not, then you may want to re-flash the BIOS to latest available, and enter your custom settings.

The bios doesn't forget anything. It just switches the "CPU host clock control" setting to disabled, which sets the cpu back to 3GHZ.

It sounds like your machine tried to boot with the OC settings you made. It failed to boot/post so it reverted back to stock settings.

This is common with, i think, all boards today. That way you don't have to go and manually reset the bios with a switch on your mobo. My mobo did the same. I tried to run the processor at 5 ghz and I tried to boot. I could hear it start, but it failed to boot, and then it restarted with the default settings.

Hope i'm reading your details correct.
