4 days ago, while playing a video game, my PC shut off. It would not turn back on. The green LED light on my motherboard would turn on, but nothing else. I unplugged my power supply from the wall for about an hour, it turned back on. A day later, it happened again under the same circumstances. I unplugged the power supply again, but this time it would not come back on. The next day, my PC worked again after having been unplugged all night. I decided it may have been an issue with my CPU overheating as my thermal margin ramped up to -7C while playing the game in question over a period of 30 min or so. I replaced the thermal paste, cleaned the heat sink fins, and installed push-pull fans on either side. The PC worked before i started this project, it would not boot up afterwards.
The power supply passes the paperclip test and will spin up a hard drive when it is plugged in. I have not seen any signs that the CPU or GPU are the culprit; I assume it must either be the motherboard or PSU. I bought the powersupply a few months ago, so i will be getting it replaced tomorrow to further narrow down the problem, but I wanted to get some input on the issue.
I have an AMD FX-8350 CPU, GTX960GPU, ASUS M5A97 LE R2.0 motherboard, and 4 sticks of the same kind of ram.
I have also tried removing and reinstalling the ram one stick at a time, and also have tried booting without the GPU installed.
