Good afternoon. I currently have an issue with my computer. As of lately I have irritatingly noticed that whenever my CPU reaches close to full usage, My computer shuts itself down.

I originally thought this would be a overheating issue so i downloaded Core Temp to see the temperatures I would get when nearing full usage. It reaches about 40-50°C before it inevitably shuts off which does not seem to be much of an issue.

I then concluded that my PSU was the problem, It was about 4 years old and a relatively unknown brand so I thought it could be the factor, under heavy load it would turn itself off. I replaced this with a brand new Corsair 600W power supply but alas it did not alleviate my issue.

As a temporary solution, i have limited the CPU power to 2.5GHz in the Catalyst Control Centre and this has solved my issue. But It has an obvious negative effect on my gaming so i wish to try and find a permanent solution.

Any Help will be appreciated immensely.

Specs:
OS: Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit (6.3, build 9600)
CPU: AMD FX-6300 (3.5GHz)
RAM: 8GB
GPU: AMD Radeon HD 7750
M/B: M5A78L-M/USB3
PSU: Corsair Builder 600W

Thanks for the advice. AMD Overdrive shows 45°C before turning off. Disabling 2 cores does not fix the issue either, instead it increases the temperature to 55°C before turning off. You may be right about the motherboard, would be strange as it has been fine for half a year and a friend of mine has the same motherboard, different CPU and has no problems whatsoever

There is definitely something off with your system, as disabling cores must lower the consumption AND the temperature. Reset Overdrive to default settings and try disabling the cores within BIOS (Advanced Clock Calibration --> Per Core --> Active CPU Core --> set to OFF the desired core (test each core in ON/OFF state).
