Hi Toms forum,
I have an issue that I have never experienced before in computing and would like some help diagnosing the cause of the problem.
Let me start by giving brief specs that would apply from my system:
2500k
Asus P8P67
NZXT H440 Case
AX1200i
Windows 10
The computer, after being put to sleep, will randomly (sometimes minutes, sometimes multiple hours) wake it self up out of sleep. It will also, not necessarily go to sleep after not being used for 15mins (as per my Windows settings). However the monitor does go to sleep when it is supposed too.
It did not do this after I first built it (4 months ago) but as of recently has been doing it on and off, although the frequency of when it happens seems to now be more on than not.
I first started using the CMD prompt:
powercfg -lastwake
And I would find it either to be on of the following:
HID-compliant mouse
HID Keyboard Device (001)
Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller
These three devices also appeared when using this protocol:
powercfg -devicequery wake_armed
IE: these are the only three devices that would be able to wake up my computer
Therefore I went into Device Manager. I found the three devices and went into Power Management and disabled there ability to wake the PC. However the problem still persisted.
I am wondering if it is my motherboard causing the issue, as it is a bit old and has given me other headaches before. The PSU is super high quality and brand new so I am doubting that is the cause.
It may also be my wiring in the case, the mobo and 24pin dont connect as well as I like. I am planning to do a rewire soon.
Does any one else have anything to try?
I sleep in the same room as PC and when it wakes the fans rev to 100% before quieting down, it sometimes wakes me and can be rather annoying. Plus it means more dust in the case!
Thanks!
