First, my specs:

Pre-built ASUS ROG GT51CA; 64GBx4 16GB DIMMS; i7-6700K CPU; TWO SLI RTX 2080Ti (I tested it with a new it RTX 4060 Ti; still won't turn on); PSU ESGaming RGB750W

Hello all,

A month ago all of a sudden I found that my when my PC was running a resource-intensive program - that is, a game - after about six minutes it would crash and restart. I ran software stress tests, and the CPU, GPUs, and RAM were all fine, but PSU um, wasn't. To be sure, took out the PSU and did the paper clip test, and the fan was dead.

I bought and installed a modular PSU with 750w as opposed to the old 600w. (See above.) With new PSU, the PC seemed to be booting up just fine - LEDs on, all fans running, etc., save for one the thing: the monitor showed No Signal.

I wimped out and took the PC to a halfway reputable repair shop. Five days laterthey told me my mother board and graphics cards were all buggered (busted), due to "liquid damage." I was like "What?!" I have never even gotten close to my PC with a beverage let alone spill one on it. Again all of the other components in the PC had checked out fine before, save the busted PSU, which I had replaced.

Stupidly I think, I bought the exact same motherboard model, and replaced the old one with it. I also bought an RTX 4060 Ti to replace the graphics cards; same thing: PC boots up, nothing on the Monitor screen but "No Signal." (I tested it with another monitor, same result.) I also bought a new i7-6700K CPU. Same thing, then I switched back to the old i7-6700K, now it won't even turn on with either processor.

What gives? I am very careful when installing PC components, and always wear a grounding wire to prevent static. And yes, I've tested the RAM, and triple-checked all connections.

I'm at my wit's end. Any and all feedback greatly appreciated.

Yeah, I think you're right, Lutfij, in regards to the new PSU I bought. It passes the 'paper clip' test; it is still working OK, but the original one that came with the pre-built rig was indeed a Corsair. Shoulda read more reviews.

Anyway, no - it doesn't turn on iGPU. (Um, to run a PC in iGPU you just need to take out the graphics card and unplug it's power cable, right?)

Again, the PC would turn on with new PSU, but with no signal to the monitor. (Yes, I rechecked the connections, then tested the PC with a different monitor which I knew was working, and tested my current monitor on another PC and it worked fine)

It was when I put in the new CPU - another i7-6700k right out of the box, that the PC wouldn't even turn on. I am sure I put it in correctly. I then put the old i7-6700k back in, same bloody thing. :-(

Cheers,

Robert

Hello all,

Finally, maybe a break in my month long hair-pulling quest to fix my PC. It won't turn on. But!! I had it on it's side and - believe it or not - as I would reach across the case for the PWR button, I did not notice that it is flashing.

I read somewhere that this indicates either a bad RAM DIMM or a dead CMOS battery.

Anyway, off to get a new CR2032 battery, and I'll test the RAM if replacing the batt. doesn't work.

My question is simply this: could the flashing PWR button also indicate something else?

Thanks in advance,

Robert

Hello all,

My PC will not turn on, and for a month I've hit a dead end in trying to fix it.

As I was trying to fix the PC with it lying flat, with the back end towards me, I simply reached across it to press the PWR button on the front, hence I did not see what I saw today: The PWR Button is flashing.

I read online that this means you either have a dead CMOS battery and/or a bad RAM DIMM. Hence, I replaced the old battery with a new one. PC will still not turn on; the PWR button is still flashing.

I tested each DIMM individually in slot A2 then in A1; the PC would not start for any one of the four.

Could the flashing (case) PWR button indicate something else?

Any and all help greatly appreciated.

Robert
