So i got a new computer and i have been messing around with it. and now i turn it on and nothing happens. The orange stand by light comes on and the fan, processor fan and the mouse also come on. I have a dell inspiron 530.

I have a Intel® Core™ 2 Duo processor
3GB of ram, but i dont know what mother board i have. It is the same one that came with the computer.

I was adding more ram and i took out the processor and disconnected the power supply. I plugged everything back in now though. I also made sure that nothing is loose

check that you put the mb power atx and 3 pin back and if you have a newer video card you connected power to it. with the cpu check that you did not bend any pins and that it seated all the way down and the heat sink on tight. with the new ram pull it out of the system and see if it boots. also post up the type and speed of the ram.

Why did you take out the processor once you had it all nice and snug in its socket? The more you handle the chip, putting it in, taking it out, putting it back in, the more you risk damaging pins etc. If you are using the stock Intel heatsink and fan, I believe there is a spot of thermal compound pre-applied to the surface of the heat spreader that makes contact with the heat spreader on the processor. If you are using an aftermarket cooler, then, yes you will need to apply thermal compound. You might have also exposed your mobo to static electricity if you were fiddling around with it excessively.

I got computer from my friend who took out some stuff already. I took out the processor from his computer and tried to put it in mine, but it wasnt compatible with my mother board. I also used a magnetic
