I just hope they do not make the mistake of all the 'me too' RPGs out there. The longest running and most successful RPGs are not successful because of the story, content, or even graphics. They are popular because they are primarially a good forum community that allow players and their guilds to effect the world they play in.
That was my addiction to EVE online. The story? who cares. Graphics? pretty, but not stellar. Gameplay? well, spreadsheets are addictive, but that scares more people than anything. Community? OMG! you mean you can set up a base and contend for sectors of space (and now planets!?!)? You can set up alliances and make a profession of corporate espionage that goes well beyond simple 'griefing'? There is a real world style market which you can play and influence? Crafting is not just a gimmicky side quest, but actual bread and butter for the game? That is what gives a game staying power! not dumb 'added features' like the ability to own a pet.
You can only sell people the same sprite covered in a different skin so many times before people get bored. But if you get players in a community deeply involved with each other then you don't even need a story line to keep them coming back. The only reasons I quite EVE was because I had a kid and did not have a whole lot of time on my hands anymore, and because money got really tight for a bit, so I had to cut back for a while. But man, what a great setup for a game! Not for everyone, but for me it was much more enjoyable and immersing than the sea of warcraft knockoffs. Even WOW was only fun for a week or 2 before it was just mindnumbing level grinding, it really is a mystery how it is still so popular (granted shrinking rapidly).
