There is my current part list for the system i just upgraded to. When checking the bios I noticed that my ram which is rated at 3200 was only running at 2133 I saw on the xmp profile there was a setting to make it run higher but i noticed it would make my cpu run at a higher mhz I set it on the profile to test it and it ran fine for the time being. However when i went back to the bios and set it to default it shows that the cpu should run at 3.7 mhz, still shows in CPUID and in task manager that its still running at the 4.3 mhz xmp profile. Even in the bios it says "running @ 3.7".

Any reason why I feel like its running at the wrong speed or is something reading speed wrong here?

The cpu multiplier and rm speed are not connected.
XMP sets the ram speed and voltage parameters to be able to run at the higher ram speed.

The 8700K default multiplier is 37. The default will allow a single core to turbo higher to 47 for one core if conditions permit.
You can increase this for one core or all cores to a higher number (called overclocking)
CPU-Z is a good way to tell what is going on.

I agree with that but why would my system seemingly stay at 4.3 if I havent changed any of the settings?

How do i set it so a specific setting? I don't see that in there. Not sure where to go to get a specific power setting.

It depends what you're looking at... I have an i7 8700k and despite it running at 4.8ghz, in task manager or other programs (and I believe the BIOS) when it lists my CPU specs, it says "...i7-8700k CPU @ 3.7GHz" because this is the digital brand name and is the "base" clock of the processor. To overclock, all I did was adjusted the CPU multiplier to x48 for all cores in my BIOS [was originally 4.3, 4.4, 4.5, 4.6, 4.7] and left default voltage settings. I also adjusted cache multiplier up to x45 (from default x44 I believe).

For me, in CPU-Z The "Specification" says @3.7Ghz but below the Core Speed is reading ~4800mhz with Multiplier x48.

You're seeing 4.3Ghz because that's the default Intel Turbo Boost frequency for six core utilization with the i7 8700k. I successfully overclocked with Intel Extreme Tuning Utility for 2 weeks with this same method, although it randomly stopped working, so I defaulted to my BIOS.

(Otherwise, a program like HWiNFO64 [sensor tab] or CoreTemp will allow you to accurately see your current core clocks when your system is running, but CPU-Z should work fine for this.)

So even with the fact that I haven't touched anything except for the XMP why does it run between 4.0 and 4.3 ghz even without me touching the overclock? I have a friend with the exact same cpu and his is steady at 3.7. Granted I have a H100i v2 so I'm not worried about heat I'm just curious about its speed.
