I'm looking to change the GPU in my build to a 980 ti (classified ACX 2.0 REF 6GB GDDR5) from a Geforce GTX 960 SSC. Here is my build, PSU's are not my thing so I struggle in finding the right one. The right one being either a new one, or if mine is sufficient.

-AMD FX-8350
-2x4gb of 2400 mhz ram
-Gigabyte ATX Socket AM3+ mobo
-1x500gb 7200 rpm HDD
-1xSamsung SATA 1.5 Gb-s Optical Drive
-XFX TS Series 550W PSU

Solution

How could Nvidia make a 600W PSU recommendation without even knowing his system? ;)

It's perfectly fine. As can be seen, the 980Ti system here http://www.kitguru.net/components/graphic-cards/luke-hill/evga-gtx-980-ti-classified-acx-2-0-review/14/ is measured from the wall. Watercooler, overclocked to 4.4Ghz I7-5960X. Gaming load is measured 460W about from the wall. Looking at the Seasonic Platinum 1000W review...

Looking at the Seasonic Platinum 1000W review http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php?name=NDReviews&op=Story3&reid=264 <-- the PSU that was used, that should put his system consumption around 420W. And his hardware isn't as extreme, so it'll likely be less.

That is very noteworthy, I would also like to note that nothing is overclocked in my build

Without overclocking you'll be more than fine.

Those ratings are always excessive and based upon people using junk PSUs. His whole system will barely hit 450w at full load. The PSU he has is more than fine.
